Sahih Hadith regarding Sacrifice of Animals done on Eid-al-Adha and Hadith regarding things to do on the day of Arafah

In this blog, I have written Sahih Hadith regarding the sacrifice of animals done on Eid-al-Adha and Hadith regarding things to do on the day of Arafah.

 Hadith no.1

The Prophet SAW said (on the day of Eidal-Adha), "The first thing we will do on this day of ours, is to offer the (`Eid) prayer and then return to slaughter the sacrifice. Whoever does so, he acted according to our Sunna (tradition), and whoever slaughtered (the sacrifice) before the prayer, what he offered was just meat he presented to his family, and that will not be considered as Nusak (sacrifice)." (On hearing that) Abu Burda bin Niyar got up, for he had slaughtered the sacrifice before the prayer and said, "I have got a six month old ram" The Prophet SAW said, 'Slaughter it (as a sacrifice), but it will not be sufficient for anyone else (as a sacrifice after you). Al-Bara' added: The Prophet SAW said, "Whoever slaughtered (the sacrifice) after the prayer, he slaughtered it at the right time and followed the tradition of the Muslims

[Sahih Bukhari 5545]

Hadith no.2

"Sacrifice only a grown-up animal, unless it is difficult for you, in which case sacrifice a ram (of even less than a year, but more than six months' age)." [Sahih Muslim 1963]

Hadith no.3

“I heard ‘Ubaid bin Fairuz say: ‘I said to Bara’ bin ‘Azib: “Tell us of the sacrificial animals that the Messenger of Allah SAW disliked or forbade.” He said: “Allah’s Messenger SAW said like this with his hand. And my hand is shorter than his hand:* ‘There are four that will not be accepted as sacrifices: The one-eyed animal that is obviously blind in one eye; the sick animal that is obviously sick; the lame animal with an obvious limp; and the animal that is so emaciated that it is as if there is no marrow in its bones.’” He said:“And I dislike that the animal should have some fault in its ears.” He said: “What you dislike, forget about it and do not make it forbidden to anyone.” [Ibn e Majah 3144]

Hadith no.4

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sacrificed two rams on the Day of ‘Eid. When he turned them to face towards the prayer direction he said: ‘Verily, I have turned my face towards Him Who has created the heavens and the earth, as a monotheist, and I am not of the polytheists. Verily, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of all that exists. He has no partner. And of this, I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims. [6:79,162-163](Verse 162-163 of Surah Al-Anam)O Allah, from You to You, on behalf of Muhammad and his nation.’” [ Ibn Majah 3121]

Hadith regarding things to do on the day of Arafah.

Hadith no.5

Abu Qatadah Al-Ansari (RAA) narrated, ‘The Messenger of Allah SAW was asked about fasting on the day of Arafah (the 9th of the monthDhul Hijjah). He replied, "Fasting on the day of Arafah is an expiation for the preceding year and the following year.”[Sahih Muslim 1162]

Hadith no.6

The best invocation is that of the Day of Arafat, and the best that anyone can say is what I and the Prophets before me have said:

Lā 'ilāha 'illallāhu

waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu,

lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu

wa huwa `alā kulli shay'in qadīr.

None has the right to be worshipped, but Allah Alone, who has no partner. His is the dominion, and His is the praise, and He is able to do all things. [Hisn al Muslim 237]

Hadith no.7

There is no day when God sets free more servants from Hell than the Day of 'Arafa. He draws near, then praises them to the angels, saying: What do these want? [Sahih Muslim 1348]

Hadith no.8

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “There are no days on which good deeds are greater or more beloved to Allah than on these ten days, so recite much Tahleel (saying Laa ilaaha ill-Allah), Takbeer (saying Allahu akbar) and Tahmeed (saying al-hamdu Lillaah),” or similar words [Al-Masnad]

Takbeer a Tashreeq

It is wajib for Hajj pilgrims and other Muslims who are not performing Hajj to recite the following takbeer known as Takbeer e Tashreeq atleast once after every Fardh Salah from Fajr of 9th of Dhul Hijah to Asr of 13th of Dhul Hijah. It is to be recited audibly by men and softly by women.

English Version of Takbeer al Tashreeq

Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, La ilaha illallah, Wallahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa lillahil hamd

Translation

Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. There is no god but Allah. And Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise.”

Message to the Ummah

May Allah accept your sacrifice done on this Eid. Eid-al-Adha doesn't mean to only sacrifice animals and eat tasty meals. It teaches us many lessons like feelings of sacrifice, humility, brotherhood, compassion and mercy etc for others. This Eid makes us realize to spend our favourite things such as our life, property, wealth, etc, for the sake of Allah. Allah says in the Quran that He does not care for our flesh, but He sees our intention, whether a person is doing this act for showing off or for the pleasure of God. The passion with which we sacrifice our animals for the sake of Allah should be present in us not only on Eid-al-Adha  but it should be present in us for the whole year. On the occasion of this Eid, do not forget the Palestinians and all those Muslims who are oppressed.

I am near to the thought of My servant as he thinks about Me, and I am with him as he remembers Me. And if he remembers Me in his heart, I also remember him in My Heart, and if he remembers Me in assembly I remember him in assembly, better than his (remembrance), and if he draws near Me by the span of a palm, I draw near him by the cubit, and if he draws near Me by the cubit I draw near him by the space (covered by) two hands. And if he walks towards Me, I rush towards him. [Sahih Muslim 2675 a]
