Dressing of Prophet Muhammad PBUH

      

      

   In this blog, I will write about the dressing of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to wear simple clothes. He did not restrict Muslims from adorning themselves and wearing beautiful clothes to beautify themselves, but he did say not to push for that which they don't possess and to be grateful to Allah, which he had given them. He also advised Muslims to be pious and simple in their clothing.
He used to wear whatever was available for wearing. 
"The dress of piety, that is best. That is from the signs of Allāh so that they may take admonition."[Sūrah al-A’rāf: 26]
COLOUR
White Colour
            
   He used to wear clothes of different colours like black, white, red, green etc.   However, he used to prefer white amongst other colours. In one of his   sayings reported by Ibn e Abbas (May   Allah be pleased with him), he says:
 "Put on white clothes because they are the   best; and use them for shrouding your   dead."
Red Colour
      Bara (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that:
"Messenger of Allah SAW was of medium stature. I saw him wearing a red mantle. I have never seen anything more graceful than that."
Green Colour
           Abu Rimthah Rifaah At-Tamimi (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that:
"I saw the Messenger of Allah SAW wearing
two green garments."
 Black Colour
           
                 Jabir (May Allah be pleased with   him) said that
     
"The Messenger of Allah SAW entered Makkah on the day of its conquest and he was wearing a black turban."
STYLE OF CLOTHING
                The Messenger of Allah PBUH used to wear a turban and a cap under to keep it different from polytheists who didn't wear caps under their turbans. The end of the turban would hang down sometimes hang on his chest and sometimes on his shoulders.

He used to wear clothes made up of any type of material except for silk. He also prohibited Muslim men from wearing gold ornaments. Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) in regards to men wearing pure silk and gold for Muslim men reported that Prophet Muhammad PBUH said that:
"These two are haram for the males among my followers but halal for females."
Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported in regards to men wearing pure silk that Prophet Muhammad said:
"Do not wear silk, for those who wear it in this life shall not wear it in the Hereafter."
It has been reported on the authority of Mughira bin Shubah (may Allah be pleased with him) that:
"I was with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on a journey one night, and he asked me, "Do you have any water with you?" I said, "Yes." So he dismounted from his riding camel and walked away (to answer the call of nature) until he disappeared into the darkness. When he returned, I poured out some water from a vessel and he washed his face. He was wearing a long woollen cloak and could not take out his forearms from his sleeves, so he brought them out from below the cloak and then washed them, and then passed his (wet) hands over his head. I stretched out my hand to take off his Khuff (leather socks), but he said, "Leave them. I put them on after performing Wudu'," and he passed his (wet) hands over them.
This means that he also wore a cloak. The Prophet Muhammad SAW preferred to wear a Kameez, which is a long shirt quite similar to what is now known as a the. Umm Salmah (May Allah be pleased with her) said that:
"Out of all the garments, the Prophet Muhammad PBUH liked the Kameez the most."
In regards to the sleeves of the Kameez Asma Bint Yazid (May Allah be pleased with her ) said that
"The sleeves of the Prophet Muhammad SAW reached down to his wrists."
In regards to wearing long garments Abdullah Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever allows his lower garment to drag out of vanity will find that Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection."
However, there is an exception for the one whose garment keeps on sliding down, as reported at the end of this Hadith. On his foot, he used to wear Sandals.

INTRODUCTION

 Hazrat Muhammad PBUH was last among Hundred and Twenty six thousand prophets sent to Earth by Allah Almighty to guide mankind to the path chosen by Almighty for mankind. In the Quran he was declared by Allah as “Mercy for all Mankind”. He was born on 570 AD in Makkah. At the age of 40, he was visited by Hazrat Jibrael (A.S) when he received his first revelation. After sometime he started to teach these revelations publicly. He is a perfect role model for us to follow if we want to succeed in this life and in the life hereafter. He is known as the “Khatam un Nabiyeen” as no prophet will arrive after him.

SOME PERSONALITY TRAITS OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH)

Here are some personality traits of Prophet Muhammad SAW upon which everyone can mould his life inorder to succeed in this world and in the world hereafter.

• Humble Attitude towards others

It is said that the Prophet Muhammad PBUH once said: 

“I will not give up five habits as long as I live: To eat sitting on ground with slaves, to ride on a pony without a saddle, to milk goat with my own hands, to wear coarse woollen cloths, and to greet children, so that it may become a popular habit after me and people follow suit.”

• All for the sake of Allah

He used to do everything in his life for the sake and pleasure of Allah. He never made any decision in his whole life due to his personal desire but for the sake of Allah. One example of this is that when he went to Taif for preaching people lead naughty children to throw stones on him. His body was filled with blood but he did not complain to Allah rather he prayed to Allah for there forgiveness and to guide them towards right path. One of his companions narrated:

“The Prophet (PBUH) resembled a Prophet who was harmed by His people. He wiped the blood from His face and said: ‘O God! Forgive my people, for they know not!” (Bukhari).

• Kindness to Kids

He was very kind in general and was an epitome of kindness but he was even more kind towards. He used to greet them and play with them. He loved there company. He used to say to kids:

“I’ll give such and such (i.e. gift or so) to the one who comes to me first.”So they used to race and fall on His back and chest." (Masnad e Ahmad bin Hanbal)

• Attitude With Orphans

He not only cared about ones around him but of everyone in the society because he was sent as a “mercy for all mankind”. He also cared about orphans and would commend his followers to take care of them as they have no parents. In one of His hadiths, He said:

“The best house among the Muslims is one where an orphan is well treated, and the worst house among the Muslims is one where an orphan is badly treated.” (Ibn Majah)

• Peace Lover

Islam is the religion of peace and Hazrat Muhammad SAW was also a peace Lover. He used to encourage people to sort out there differences with peace rather then opting for violence. In one of His hadiths, He said:

“Let us go to resolve the situation and make peace between them.” (Bukhari)

• Generosity 

Another inspiring trait of Muhammad SAW was his generosity. He always preferred others over himself and used to donate a lot to the poor and needy people. He was one of the most generous person there could ever be. One of His companions notes:

“The Prophet (PBUH) did not refuse to give anything which He had to someone if he asked for it.” (Bukhari)

• Morals and Manners

He was a man of great and his Morales were of the highest quality. Everything that he did in his whole life reflected morals and Manners of the highest standard. He was the one who increased the standards of morals of humanity. One of His companions notes:

“The Prophet (PBUH) did not swear at anyone, nor was He rude, nor did He curse anyone. If He desired to reprimand someone, He would say: ‘What is wrong with him, may dust be cast in his face!” (Bukhari)

• Pleasant attitude and Gentleness

Hazrat Muhammad SAW was the most gentle person there could ever live. He spoke to everyone with Gentleness and utmost politeness. Where ever he went he used to spread love. He would greet everyone with a smile on his face. His companion said about him:

“I have never seen a man who smiled as much as the Messenger of Allah.” (Tirmidhi)

• Cooperation

Hazrat Muhammad SAW was very cooperative with others. He never thought of himself being someone special but he would easily mix with others and help them. He used to cooperate with his wives in doing daily chores. As one of His companion narrates regarding the battle of Trench:

“I saw the Messenger of Allah on the Day of the Trench carrying dirt (that was dug from the trench) until His chest was covered with dirt.” (Bukhari)

• Modesty

 Another aspect of his life was his modesty. He was the modest of all in everything he did throughout his life. He also encouraged his followers to be modest and refrain from bashfulness. In one of His hadiths, He said:

“Modesty is a part of teachings of the previous Prophets and anyone who lacks it is most likely to do whatever he likes.” (Reported by Abdullah ibn Muslimah)

• Attitude towards Animals

He was the first person on earth to raise voice for the fair treatment of animals and there rights. He encouraged his followers to treat animals with care instead of being harsh towards them. Hazrat Aisha (RA) narrated:

“I once found difficulty in riding a horse, so I kept reining it in repeatedly. The Prophet (PBUH) then said, ‘You must have gentleness.’” (Muslim)

• Selflessness

He was very selfless. He could give anything he had to any person who asked for it. He did not want anything for this world. Whatever he had he spent it on there to help them get rid of there problems. Regarding this attribute of His personality, one of His companions notes:

“The Messenger of Allah did not leave any gold or silver currency, or a slave, male or female, after his death. He only left behind his white mule, his weapons and a piece of land which He declared as charity.” (Bukhari)

CONCLUSION

 These were only some personality traits of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW)’s life. He is a role model for all mankind if they want to make this world a better place to live. In order to succeed in this life and in the life hereafter we must follow the golden steps of Prophet Muhammad PBUH.
