In this blog, I have written about some of the verses of the Quran which tell us about the existence of atoms.
Translation of Verse 61 of Surah Al-Yunus
There is no activity you may be engaged in ˹O Prophet˺ or portion of the Quran you may be reciting, nor any deed you ˹all˺ may be doing except that We are a Witness over you while doing it. Not ˹even˺ an atom’s weight is hidden from your Lord on earth or in heaven; nor anything smaller or larger than that, but is ˹written˺ in a clear register.
English Translation of Verse 7 of Surah Az-zalzala
So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it.
English Translation of Verse 8 of Surah Az-zalzala
And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.
Explanation
These are only some of the verses of the Holy Quran which precisely describe the existence of atoms when science at the time was not even familiar with the concept of atoms. The atomic theory was developed in the 19th century, and it kept on evolving to what we know today that
"Atom is the smallest particle of matter that takes part in a chemical reaction."
Atom consists of subatomic particles as well like electrons, protons, neutrons, quarks and anti-quarks. If you read the first verse written above you could see that it is written 'Not ˹even˺ an atom’s weight is hidden from your Lord on earth or in heaven; nor anything smaller or larger than that'. This part of the verse not only tells us about the existence of particles smaller than atoms (subatomic particles) but also tells about particles larger than atoms which could mean molecules and other forms of matter which we see in our surroundings. These verses leave us with no doubt that the Quran is the book of Allah sent to the Prophet Muhammad SAW for our guidance and it also contains accurate scientific facts for people of wisdom and knowledge so they can ponder upon Allah Almighty's greatness.
